Palacio Zubieta has always been a property of the Yarza family. Since the Middle Ages, it was a tower (it remains still standing one of its groundings), which was used to control the road towards the inner part of the estuary and the small port of Arropain.
The beauty of the building and its unparalleled enclave beside the Lea river, make Palacio Zubieta to be listed as the most important rural palace of the Basque Country. The palace is unavailable for visits, although currently it is frequently opened for private events.
Palacio Zubieta used to be one of the most preferred meeting points of the XIXth century and the beginings of the XXth for the Biscayan society, when Lekeitio used to be summer destination for the international royalty. Isabel IInd was forced to go from here into exile matching with one of the summer seasons and the Empress Zita of Austria used to frequent it for the afternoon tea.
In 1997 was restored that building that once hosted the stables of the Palace and that way arose Palacio Zubieta, a 3 stars charming hotel located at the entrance to the palace gardens.
The hotel counts with 23 large and comfortable rooms, 10 of them double rooms, 11 Deluxe, 1 family room and 1 Junior Suite. All rooms have large windows and plasma TV, free wifi and strongbox.
Each room is decorated in a particular way, providing everyone of them with their own personality: some of them have wooden floors covered with Persian carpets; others are covered with carpet, rich fabrics for curtains, warm garrets or visible wooden beams. All of it to offer a comfortable and lavish ambience to the customers.
