Leaving behing Ondarreta beach, between El Antiguo neighborhood and Miramar Palace, a building which was summer residence of the Spanish Royal Household since the days of María Cristina of Habsburg-Lorraine, queen-consort of King Alfonso XIIIth, there is a climb up a hill just to reach some unbeateable views over the mountains surrounding Donostia.
This Hotel Palacio de Aiete is located to some five minutes by car or more or less twenty on foot, as you wish, from this amazing sandy area right on the bay of La Concha, a heaven of peace in the middle of the city, a perfect place where spend some resting or business days in this pearl of the Basque Country.
Hotel Palacio de Aiete hotel takes its name from that building which was aristocratic residence, built by the Dukes of Bailén in 1878 in a neoclassical style, which was used by the Spanish dictator Franco as a summer home. The existence of that monster and its presence in Donostia constitute indeed a tragic and unforgetable fact of which, however, this hotel of today cannot be held responsible.
